24-3-2020. The difficult global crisis has overwhelmed not only the health centres but Social Security administration as well.
Despite the law RDL 8/2020, of March 17, which stipulates that autonomos who apply for “Cease of Activity” are exempt from paying their social security, the truth is that all seems to indicate that there is not enough time to grant this status before March 31st and stop the charge from your bank.
The reason for this readjustment is that the Law appoints the “Mutuas” (entities dependant on the social security which deal with work accidents and off-sick periods due to profession related illness) to process and approve the “Cease of activity” grant.
The President of ATA, Carlos Piñedo, has explained that “Mutuas” are not ready yet to process these petitions. They have not even started as they need to prepare the online tools to collect all the information.
He has also “begged, supplicated “ to Prime Minister that he suspends the collections of social security fee at the end of March. This has been done via letter addressing Prime Minister dated 23rd of March.
Social Security will refund the charge of applicants.
Last week, the social security collection department (TGSS) released a note to say that autonomos in this situation could apply for the refund of the quota via their website. Though more recently, on 24th of March, they mentioned that these will be refunded without need of application.
However, for Carlos Piñedo this is not sufficient. The administration could take months to refund the money and autonomos have their lack of liquidity now.
We will wait and see if there is any reaction to the increasing pressure of autonomo workers to be exempt from social security this month.
